Singapore -- BUGIS JUNCTION

Since Michael was confined at Raffles Hospital, I took the chance in exploring the area of Bugis, and man, did I love it!

What used to be a notorious night spot for sailors has been reinvented to a massive urban shopping district and has quickly become very popular with the locals and tourists.  More so, it isn’t only for shopping, beauty salons and restaurants can also be found here. In fact, massages and beauty services are more affordable here than other parts of the country.

Anyway, here are the reasons why you shouldn’t miss visiting this stop on the MRT especially if you’re craving for some cheap retail therapy:

     1)  Cheap stuff! – probably the cheapest place to shop in Singapore. The Bugis Village Market has pretty much everything you need  --clothes, gadgets, accessories, even sex toys -- all at bargain prices! There are 3 floors and 2 adjoining buildings of shopping galore to satisfy your cheap thrills.

Most items range from SGD $2 - 20!

2)  Malls – Basically surrounding the MRT and Bus Stations are huge malls that cater from high-end fashion to bargain stuff. Restaurants, cafes, salons, pharmacies, etc also inhabit the malls for whatever you need. Shaw Cinemas Bugis is there too. Don’t be afraid that you’ll get lost as the malls are all connected with bridges and passageways that will get you from one to the other.

     3)  Food – Singapore is known for amazing food (more on the hawker food later) and Bugis isn’t lacking in fastfood, specialty, and popular restaurants. The malls also have food court centers that you can eat hawker-type food in well air-conditioned areas.

Awesome chicken sandwich. The chicken patty
is wrapped in a scrambled egg and cheese mix!
Uber greasy but yummy comfort food!
Sloppy Sandwich Singapore style. a must try!

Nearby is the famous Arab Street where one can relish in wonderful Arabic / Middle Eastern dishes and wares. The sultan mosque is also located here.

Arab and Middle Eastern restaurants line the streets.

The beautiful Sultan Mosque on the right.

Dates, nuts, and every middle eastern treat!

4National Library – that cool, modern, upscale looking building 2 minutes from the station on Victoria Street is actually a library. Remember when you can sit in a comfortable couch with a good book at a quiet library? You can do that here.  Tourists are welcome.

Fees may apply for use of certain collections and archives. For more information visit:

And...... 5)  Some nice things you find on the streets. Here are some I found interesting in between my food and shopping trips.

Seems that Bali is everywhere I go!
