10.
People are generally nice and accommodating. They’re easy-going, friendly, and approachable. It’s easy to strike up a conversation with them anywhere at
anytime as they seem very willing to chat with foreigners and even practice
their English.
9. The Balinese
are also strictly religious and it’s such a treat to witness their ceremonies
in action. One will often see a regular “upacara agama” (religious ceremony)
happening on a weekly basis. But every now and then, one will be lucky enough
to witness special ceremonies like this (ex.below: Upacara Melasti),
or even participate in one (above: holy waters of Tirtha Empul).
8. Balinese architecture, décor and design are gorgeous. The expert and exotic-looking woodcarvings with rich colors are cultural stamps of beauty to normal things around here. I am such a fan of the intricately-carved teak-wood doors and window panelings, as well as the gazebos and open-air style bungalows here in Bali.
7. One is able to live comfortably (and even a bit more)
here as the cost of living isn’t like that of the city or other more popular
holiday spots. Basic commodities and local food are generally cheap, and one
can spend enough without hurting the monthly budget.
6. The sunsets and sunrise are simply breathtaking. I don't think I've seen anywhere as beautiful than here.
It's also a bonus that the weather is beautiful most of the time. Sure
there’s the rainy season, but it’s not so much a nuisance. There are hardly any
typhoons here in Bali and the rains often last just a few hours in a day.
5. The quality of life. If you prefer this over the rush
and stress, Bali is an awesome place to live and enjoy life to the fullest.
Life here is slow and unhurried, allowing one to enjoy the scenery and the
abundant nature that surrounds.
Getting in touch with nature and or one’s spirituality
are some of the gifts Bali bestows to its residents.
Imagine driving your motorbike through fresh
breeze with scents of flowers and greens under the full moon? or watching beautiful sunsets in the open sea while sitting on your surfboard? It’s just simply a
beautiful place.
4. Gorgeous beaches!
Need I say more?? The island offers
different beach spots for every preference or activity. Want to Surf? Kite
board? Snorkel? Dive? or simply swim and wade in the water. There’s definitely
a spot for you. And all are easily accessible too!
3. I get to wear flip-flops at work
and get to dip my feet in the sand after!
Can’t get any more
comfy than that!
2. The Surf!
Often the main and only reason most
foreigners have regarding why they live here. As for me, I’ve only acquired
this sport upon taking residence years ago and now I truly understand the
passion and obsession they have of the waves in Bali.
If you surf, I guess there is no need for me to explain
this. But if you don’t surf, well, you may want to learn.
and the #1 reason.....
Bali showed me how to focus more on growing in spirit and experience, and mostly to realize that true happiness can be found in the simplest things. It helped me release my dependencies on the many material things I once revolved my life on. It has encouraged me to look at my environment, to pause and appreciate the beauty and blessings that the world is giving me; to relish in it, use it well, and exist harmoniously with it.
