Where to stay in Hanoi

In my searches, Hanoi Backpackers always came up with good reviews. So when I got to the strip I decided to check it out. Oh yeah, it's popular all right. It was bursting to the seams with young drunk aussies on their version of spring break. The place looked like an over-flow of Kuta in Bali.

I live there and I see this all the time and I just can't handle this on my holiday so, I turn around and looked for another place.

I found one on the next block at Backpackers Old Quarter on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street. It’s nothing fancy but the beds are clean enough for a night. I decided to stay in a dorm as I’d be needing only a night’s sleep for the next day I’d be on a cruise.

One thing to note though is their dorm room is a mixed one. So if you don’t mind having guys in the same room, it should be fine.

If you don’t have a reservation, it’s also no problem as hostels here are a dime a dozen. Prices range from $4 - 5 dorm rooms to $15 - 20 private rooms. Of course there are expensive hotels too.
